Feeding our Community in Good Times and Bad
Sonoma Family Meal is committed to strengthening our local food economy and nourishing our community in times of crisis and stability. Founded in the darkest hours of the 2017 wildfires by Sonoma Magazine dining editor Heather Irwin, SFM continues to feed our community during disasters.
But our mission has now expanded with the addition of our 3,100 square foot community kitchen in Petaluma -- the first of its kind in Sonoma County. At our new home base, our program will include (beginning in 2022)...
- Free culinary job training program
- Affordable commissary kitchen rental
- Nutritious meals for food-insecure families
- Chef-made emergency meals for disaster relief
- Cooking classes and culinary events for the community
- Food Business Incubation
SFM By the Numbers...
- 750,000 Meals Served Since 2017
- 1,174 Volunteers Engaged
- $1.2 Million Paid to Local Restaurants
- $150,000 Paid to Local Farmers
- We believe that in times of crisis, a united local food system is the most effective food production model
- We believe everyone deserves dignified food
- We believe collaboration leads to resiliency
- We believe chefs, farmers and ranchers should be paid for their work
- We believe in transforming excess food into meals
