Every day at Unity Kitchen, something powerful is happening: food that might have gone to waste is transformed into nourishment, young people are discovering new paths forward, and our kitchen is evolving to meet a increasing need. This spring, we invite you to be part of a season of possibility as we grow forward together.

NEW Life for Rescued Food & RENEW food access at Unity Kitchen
What was once surplus becomes something meaningful. Through our partnership with ExtraFood, thousands of pounds of fresh, high-quality food are rescued each month and redirected where they’re needed most. Our expanded pantry program, built from a simple community fridge, now welcomes over 750 visits each month and distributes more than 1,500 reusable bags of groceries. It’s not just about access, it’s about dignity, giving neighbors the ability to choose the foods that best support their families while keeping over 10,000 pounds of food out of landfills every month.

NEW Opportunities for Youth
In our kitchen, the next generation is gaining more than cooking skills. Through our partnership with Teen Services Sonoma, local teens step into a space where they can build confidence, earn their food handler's certification, and imagine new futures. Each student leaves with hands-on training, a knife kit, and real pathways into the culinary workforce. Many are low-income, first-generation students, and for them, this program opens doors that may not have felt accessible before. This year, 30 teens will take part, gaining not just experience, but a sense of belonging and possibility.

A RENEWed Unity Kitchen
As the need for meals continues to grow, so must our capacity to respond. With critical kitchen upgrades, including a new hot line, Unity Kitchen will be able to produce more meals, more efficiently, and more sustainably. These improvements will reduce energy use while preparing us to respond in times of crisis, when we may need to produce over 1,000 meals in a single day. It’s an investment not just in infrastructure, but in resilience, ensuring we can continue to show up for our community when it matters most.
